Free multiplayer mod for Napoleon: Total War

Field Command: Napoleon Mod is a free-to-use mod created by chewi3 for the strategy game Napoleon: Total War. This custom multiplayer add-on aims to make the game more immersive by adopting technical and creative changes to make the game more historically accurate. Manage larger unit armies, enlist new units based on real-world entities, and enjoy Napoleon overall with fewer game-crashing bugs.

Aside from simply adding new content, Field Command: Napoleon Mod also adds fixes to the base game and improves your gameplay experience. Other mods for the game include ACW: The American Civil War and Pike&Shot: Total War.

A more realistic field command experience

One of the most notable changes from Field Command: Napoleon Mod is that it essentially overhauls the battle and organization element of the game. Instead of 20, you can now field up to 30 individual units in an army. It even lets you build an entire division of 5,000 men, in multiplayer games. This support for online gaming immediately makes this mod a must-have.

Players can also expect a massive rework of the graphics and audio. Working with the ACW mod developer, it has more realistic textures and added details that further distinguish units apart. In terms of the sound effects, it remasters some of the existing tracks while adding a couple of original ones to better capture the time period of the game. It also rebalances the in-game factions, making them historically accurate.

Lastly, it introduces a number of fixes to the base game. Unfortunately, some of the vanilla bugs still persist, which can randomly force players to leave their game. Additionally, it also comes with its own issues for unsupported versions of the game. Unresponsive input and visual glitches like textures not loading or units in false color are some of the reported problems.

A layered and complex mod

By bringing a historically accurate experience into multiplayer games, Field Command: Napoleon Mod has become one of the few mods to do so. It reworks the gameplay mechanics, graphics, and audio to give players a fresh yet familiar feel that leaves them to focus on the more important aspects of the game. It requires extra steps to resolve inherent issues, but it’s still one of the best mods available.
